TN
That U.S. opportunity is worth a conversation. Explore professional work through the TN pathway.
Magog applicants may compare bilingual offers, a recent promotion, several funding accounts or an employer benefit. Preparation should identify the actual duties, rights and payments behind those descriptions. Clear wording is useful when it faithfully represents the real proposal. A first review therefore produces a short reconciliation table: for every claim the applicant makes, the document that supports it, the document that contradicts it, and the correction needed. Where a French employment contract and an English offer letter disagree on duties, the review names which issuer must amend, and the file waits until it has.

Explore TN, L-1A, L-1B, E-2, EB-5 and Gold Card through illustrative planning decisions. These examples do not imply local applicant prevalence or different US eligibility rules. Each scenario ends with a decision the reader has to make, such as whether a controller’s letter must describe accounting work, whether an inn purchase closes before or after the E-2 application, or whether a stepchild’s birthday falls on the right side of the marriage date. The law is the same in every municipality; only the facts to be gathered differ.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
Reconcile language versions accurately.

A translated title is not a different job. System access does not establish expertise, and several bank movements may represent one contribution. Read each record for the fact it actually supports. Before contact, gather the records in this order: passports and any permanent-resident card for every traveller; the current employment contract and the proposed U.S. letter in both languages; share registers or plan statements for any ownership; bank statements for the accounts that will actually fund a venture; and birth and marriage certificates for each dependant, including any stepchild.

Personal support.
A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
State the work, authority, funding or benefit actually being considered. For each one, name the counterparty: the employer that will sign the letter, the parent company that owns the transferee, the seller of the business or the sponsor paying a fee.
Explain discrepancies without changing the underlying facts. Keep both versions of a contradictory document in the file with a dated note from its issuer, because a quietly replaced page raises more questions than an explained difference.
Connect actual qualifications, rights and payments to the proposed route. That connection is a checklist per route, ticked only when a document proves the condition, with the unproven items becoming the questions for the employer, seller or accountant.
Keep private service arrangements separate from permission and residence milestones. A retainer paid, a translation delivered or a business plan finished changes nothing in the applicant’s status. A filing receipt documents a pending request but does not by itself grant status or a benefit; an admission record or approval notice controls only within its stated terms and the applicable rule.
A useful case plan preserves the history while identifying current commitments. Resolve inconsistent terms and keep private charges distinguishable from capital, programme gifts and government decisions. Sequencing matters as much as content. A transfer petition should not be filed until the U.S. entity is owned by the Québec company rather than by its founder; an E-2 application should not be lodged until the purchase price is spent or held in a visa-contingent escrow; and a dependant should not begin any paid activity until their own admission record authorizes it.
Find your pathwayBring the effective documents and explain which versions or arrangements remain uncertain. Confirm professional scope, responsibilities and fees. Translation and reimbursement should support an accurate case rather than conceal material differences. A remote consultation ends with a written list: which route the facts support, which single document currently blocks it, who must issue the correction, and the date after which the file can move. That list is the deliverable, and it is revised only when a new document changes a fact, never to make an earlier description sound better.
Let’s connectArrange a remote consultation to discuss your next steps.
The actual duties and profession-specific qualifications still need assessment.
Describe the actual responsibilities and dates instead of backdating the new authority.
Do not impose that blanket rule; establish the actual lawful source, rights and path.
Identify the actual programme arrangement and official instructions separately from the private benefit.
Dispatcher is not a listed USMCA profession, so no TN exists for that job however skilled the person is. A dispatch manager may instead fit L-1A if the Québec carrier owns the U.S. terminal and the manager has one continuous managerial year abroad, with duties that become primarily managerial rather than driving routes.
No. E-2 requires funds that are irrevocably committed and at risk. An accepted offer conditional on financing commits nothing. Either the sale closes and the price is paid, or the full amount sits in an escrow that releases only when the visa is granted and returns to the buyer if it is refused.
TD status authorizes no employment, and no published rule declares that remote work for a Canadian employer performed from inside the United States is exempt. Treat it as a risk to the spouse’s status and future applications rather than a loophole. The safer sequence is to identify the spouse’s own route, such as a TN in a listed profession or an L-1 through a qualifying employer, and to start the remote arrangement only after that status is granted.
No. The investor must be engaged in the enterprise’s management or policy formulation, which for a regional-center project is usually satisfied by limited-partner rights, and can live anywhere in the United States. What conditional permanent residence does require is genuine U.S. residence: long stays back in Québec can be read as abandonment. Form I-829 examines the sustained qualifying investment and required job creation, not the state where the investor lives.
