A difference needs a reliable identity explanation, not an altered diploma.
Connect records without rewriting them
Use genuine name-change or other relevant identity records to connect the applicant with the credential. The profession’s substantive qualification still needs assessment independently of the spelling or name history.
Start by matching the passport, legal-name evidence, diploma, transcript and employer letter, then test the substance separately. TN requires Canadian or Mexican citizenship, a prearranged position in a listed USMCA profession, and the qualification prescribed for that profession. A name bridge cannot repair an unsuitable degree or vague duties. Confirm who will direct the work and disclose any ownership, because TN does not permit U.S. self-employment. A Canadian citizen may seek admission at a port of entry or have the U.S. employer file Form I-129; permanent residence in Canada is not Canadian citizenship.
Hypothetical example: A Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley civil engineer has a bachelor’s diploma in her birth surname and a passport issued after marriage. She should assemble the marriage record, unchanged academic records, any faithful translation, and an employer letter describing prearranged structural-design duties. Before choosing a filing method, she asks the employer to confirm supervision and removes language suggesting that she will independently solicit clients. The identity documents connect one person across two names, while the engineering degree and proposed work address the professional category. Ordering a replacement diploma without first checking whether the university issues one would add expense without resolving the eligibility analysis.
