Use a supported funding calculation that distinguishes market estimates, sale proceeds and separate expenses.
Check the available qualifying contribution
The current general requirement is US$1,050,000 or US$800,000 for qualifying TEA or infrastructure cases, with statutory adjustment from January 1, 2027 and filing-date review. Brokerage charges, currency conversion and potential tax obligations require their own planning rather than an invented net figure.
Model the contribution from cash actually available after sale, conversion, brokerage deductions and other obligations, without treating a quotation as spendable proceeds. Keep professional and transaction expenses separate unless governing investment documents properly place an amount into qualifying capital. Verify the filing-date threshold: currently US$1,050,000 in the standard case, while qualifying targeted-employment-area or infrastructure projects permit US$800,000. Ten qualifying U.S. workers must receive full-time jobs through the enterprise and the investor’s management or policy role. Select Form I-526E for a regional center and Form I-526 for a direct investment, preserving the lawful source and path.
Hypothetical example: A cadastral surveyor from Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley plans to liquidate an index portfolio for a direct EB-5 enterprise. He compares quoted value with trade confirmations, conversion receipts and the bank’s net credit before deciding whether enough can be contributed. His budget separates operating funds from personal tax and advisory costs. If proceeds miss the applicable threshold, relabelling expenses will not cure the shortfall. He must present a credible ten-position plan, then account for two-year conditional residence and file Form I-829 for himself and eligible derivatives within the 90-day period immediately preceding the second anniversary.
